What to do in different Lockout situations

As small as our keys are, they are quite important for several reasons. This is why it is important for us to keep them close and safe. But, no matter how careful we are with our keys, there may come a time when they get misplaced, lost stolen or we have simply forgotten to carry them with us. It happens to the best of us, no matter how careful we try to be sometimes.

When you find yourself in a situation like this, it is great to know that you have someone at home or nearby that can give you a set of spare keys so you can regain access to your property. However, if you are not so lucky, you may have just worked your way into a lockout situation.

So, You Are Locked Out. Now What?

Being locked out is not the end of the world. As frightful, overwhelming and depressing as it may seem, there are several ways that you can regain access to your vehicle, your home or your business. You do not have to cry, or get flustered with negative emotions. It has happened to many people before and it may not be the last time that it will happen to you. Don’t let it be a stressful encounter.

When most people get locked out, the first thing they do is panic. Although it is a very natural response, it is the last thing that you should do. Panicking can cause a whole new set of problems that do not have to occur. If you have underlying health conditions that are triggered by stress or panicking, you should be especially careful. Yes, it is quite normal to panic and it may be unavoidable, but you should be able to calm yourself quickly after you realize that these emotions are becoming dominant.

Staying calm will allow you to think carefully about your options to see which one makes the most sense. Try to stay as calm as possible until you have figured out the option that makes the most sense for your situation. It may be hard for you to remain calm, but it is worth it. Just give it a try.

Things to Do Before You Call a Locksmith

You don’t have to call a locksmith right away if you think you are locked out. You may be able to let yourself back inside. Here are some questions that you should ask yourself once you think that you are locked out of any property you own.

  • Is anyone locked inside?

If you are locked out of anywhere, this is the first question that you should ask yourself. Not only will it help to determine the urgency of the situation, but it will also help you to realize if there is someone inside who can help you to regain access. If you are fortunate enough, this may be the only question that you have to ask as someone may be able to open the door for you. If not, there are a few more things that you need to establish.

  • Are there spare keys nearby?

Many people tend to leave spare keys with a friend of family member and some may even hide spare keys in places that they believe are not easy to find. If you are locked out, try to remember if you have done this. It may help you to save some time as well as a few bucks.

  • Is a window open nearby?

Regardless of where you are locked out from, there may be a window nearby that is open. Check to see if there are any open windows. It doesn’t matter how close it is to the entrance doors. Even if the window is only slightly open, you may be able to find a way inside because of that opening. If a nearby window is open, you may be able to unlock the door through it. Just stay calm and check your windows.

  • Can I gain access through another door?

If you are locked out of your home business or vehicle, check to make sure that all the doors are locked before you call to get help. You may have left another door unlocked by accident and you are able to get inside. But, it is important that you remain calm to do this. You may overlook unlocked doors in the heat of the moment.

If you have made all checks and realize that you have no way of getting inside, it means that it is time to call for help. Then we recommend picking up and calling the services of a 24 hour mobile locksmith to come and help.
